An organization chart (often called organigram , or organogram) is a diagram that shows the structure of an organization and the relationships and relative ranks of its parts and positions/jobs.
In many cases of interest, the informative data is not so much in the individual characteristics
of records, but in the relationships between different records. Instead of considering data in tabular form,
one can consider data in a graph (network) form.
Grapheur allows to visualize hierarchically-organized data in a graph form through its layered navigation feature
in the network analytics module.
Data:
In this example we give a simple visualization of the organization chart of a multi-national business, also shown in the figure below.- Name: department name
- Budget USD: annual budget for every department
- People: number of employed in the department
- City: location of the office
- Level: hierarchical level in the organization chart.
Grapheur sample visualization: Network Analytics and Layered navigation
The network analytics module of Grapheur is made to navigate in networks visualized in two or three dimensions. The visualization can give much more information than the diagram of the previous picture: for example, the color code represents the annual budget of every unit, while the size of the bubbles is proportional to the number of people working at every unit. Through the shape of the visual items one identifies the city where the unit is located. By right-clicking on the records it is simple to focus on the different levels in the hierarchy and to navigate through the data.
Even more information can be obtained by creating additional plots on the dashboard. Note that all plots are synchronized : if you click on a single bubble in the bubblechart, the corresponding ball in the network analytics plot is highlighted. The above case is a toy example: as usual, the more data is present, the more this kind of flexible combination of visualization with network navigation shows its full potential.
